Paul Soliai

It appears to be a rest day. Soliai won't getting much playing time this season anyway, as long as Kawann Short and Star Lotulelei are healthy.

The Panthers have lost some defensive line depth this offseason, particularly in the hefty defensive tackle department, so the addition of Soliai will give Carolina exactly what they are lacking; a beefy, run-stuffing, one-technique or shade-0 nose tackle.

Soliai has played at least 14 games for eight consecutive seasons, and he would provide the Panthers with a solid presence in the middle of their defense. His fantasy impact is minimal, but he will likely help whichever team he goes to.

The move was expected as Soliai proved not to be a fit for new head coach Dan Quinn's system this season. Atlanta did designate him as a post-June 1 release which should help give some cap relief given that he just signed a five-year $32 million deal two seasons ago. He will now be free to sign elsewhere and he should draw quite a bit of attention on the open market.
