Jesse Williams
Player News
Seahawks have waived Jesse Williams.
The Seahawks drafted Williams in the fifth-round of the 2013 draft, but he hadn't made an appearance in the first two years due to knee injuries. Once he was healthy from the knee injuries, he had a kidney removed due to cancer and was activated for camp, but subsequently spent the whole 2015 season on the NFI list after being ineligible for the first six games. Although he has never played a game in his NFL career, he has won two National Championships with Alabama and a Super Bowl with the Seahawks.
Jesse Williams considers himself 100 percent healthy after getting over his cancer diagnosis last year.
A knee injury knocked him out for all of 2014 and then cancer in 2015. While his recovery should be celebrated, it's going to be awfully difficult to watch him try and break back onto the Seahawks 53-man roster. We wish him nothing but the best but have cautious optimism with regard to his chances of making it back.
Jesse Williams is expected to play in the Seahawks preseason opener.
Williams had a cancerous kidney removed in May and will be struggling to find playing time, but any time he sees the field will be a great story after what he's been through. Williams will probably see just a few snaps on Friday.
Jesse Williams has been cleared to begin working out.
This is really great news for Williams, who is back after undergoing kidney surgery for Papillary Type 2 cancer just two weeks ago. It's unclear how the Seahawks will handle Williams going forward but either way it's nice to see Williams being cleared to work out.
