In eight games last season with the Redskins, Cofield had seven combined tackles and one sack. Dan Graziano who is a ESPN NFL Nation reporter who covers the Giants tweeted on Wednesday, "I was told the Giants were releasing Meriweather for make room for a DT. Jeremy Fowler reports it's Barry Cofield." Cofield is not a recommended start in IDP leagues this week against the Panthers.

The Giants are looking for depth on their defensive line and Cofield might be exactly what they need. If they do decided to give Cofield a shot, an announcement will likely be made in the coming days.

Cofield hasn’t played this season and has dealt with numerous injuries recently including surgery on his hip. The veteran would provide depth along the defensive line if the Colts decide to go in that direction.

Cofield played in eight games this year with minimal success. He had seven tackles and one sack. He was cut after Washington signed Ricky-Jean Francois to a 3-year deal.
