Telvin Smith

This is a formality. Smith was arrested May 1 and bonded out of jail the same day. Smith allegedly had sex with an underage girl multiple times in his home and vehicle, and her DNA was found in Smith's car after it was confiscated by authorities. Smith stepped away from football last May, though he never filed his retirement papers.

Smith was arrested and charged with "unlawful sexual activity with certain minors," per the Duval County Jail website. Slapped with an $88,000 fine for blowing off mini-camp and stepping away from football to "get his world in order" last year, Smith is still on Jacksonville's roster since he never officially filed his retirement papers through league offices. His bond was set at $50,003.

Smith announced in May that he won't play football in 2019, instead taking some time away from the game to focus on his health and personal life. He still has the option to return at any time, but there hasn't been any suggestion he'll change his mind. Jake Ryan (knee) and Quincy Williams are the top candidates to replace Smith atop the depth chart at weak-side linebacker.

Smith has been away from the team all offseason and it appears his absence will continue as he tends to personal issues. The 28-year-old was scheduled to make $9.75 million in 2019 with $5 million already have been guaranteed March 17. It's not clear if he'll have to give any of that back. Regardless, Smith is leaving behind a Jaguars linebacking corps that had little depth behind him.
