Curtis Lofton
Player News
Unrestricted free agent Curtis Lofton underwent offseason ankle and knee surgeries.
This has been a puzzling offseason for Lofton as he wasn't cut until mid-march by the Raiders and now it comes out that the 30-year-old backer had some cleanup procedures done on both his ankle and knee. Prior to last season he had a streak of six straight years with better than 117 tackles and hasn't missed a game in eight seasons of pro ball. He should be signed by someone as camp arises and his health status is more clear but he won't be a starter at this point and will simply function as a sub-package run stopper.
Raiders have cut LB Curtis Lofton.
It only took one year for Oakland to move on from a veteran linebacker. Curtis Lofton was cut on Friday by the Raiders after signing with them as a free agent last year. He lost favor early in the season and only played in roughly half of the defensive snaps in 2015. Lofton did record 64 tackles and a sack last year. His release will save Oakland about two million dollars of cap space.
Curtis Lofton picked up 13 total tackles, including seven solo stops, during the Raiders’ 37-33 win over the Ravens on Sunday.
Lofton has always had massive potential but hasn't been able to translate it into much production. The linebacker is hoping this year in Oakland he can help a defense that is not as bad as most believe it to be.
Saints are releasing LB Curtis Lofton, per a source.
The Saints not only released their starting linebacker, but he was also their defensive captain. The Saints are in a rush trying to get under the salary cap and they deemed Lofton expendable at the cost of his contract. His 144 tackles in 2014 were fourth best in the league.
