Chargers signed LB Joe Mays and released C J.D. Walton
A decent fill in linebacker is what the Chargers get by signing Joe Mays in order to take Denzel Perryman's roster spot. His addition won't really change the talent level in San Diego however. J.D. Walton will now have to find a spot elsewhere.
Jets signed ILB Joe Mays.
Mays recorded 20 tackles in eight games for the Chiefs last year. The 29-year old has traveled around the league, playing for Houston, Denver, Philadelphia and Kansas City since 2008. Mays will be an inside linebacker in the Jets' 3-4 scheme, but won't be a prized asset in IDP leagues.
Jets are interested in free-agent LB Joe Mays.
Mays is a solid depth linebacker which if he can stay healthy would join a solid Jets defense. He likely won't start unless he has a standout training camp but could make an impact as a role player.
Joe Mays had a free-agent visit with the Chargers.
Mays has never really been an impact player on defense over his six seasons in the NFL and appeared in just eight games for the Chiefs last season totaling 20 tackles and one fumble recovery. Where ever Mays ends up he will likely fill a depth and potentially special teams role on their roster.
