Saints released LB Nigel Bradham.
The soon-to-be 31-year-old (on September 4) lasted 24 days with New Orleans after spending five months on the open market following his release from the Eagles. Bradham has consistently graded out positively at Pro Football Focus, but his career appears to be at a crossroads. He'll look to latch on elsewhere with a different contender.
Saints signed LB Nigel Bradham, formerly of the Eagles, to a one-year contract.
Bradham is an eight-year veteran who has compiled at least 51 tackles in each NFL season. His leadership and experience will help round out the New Orleans front seven that already had a lot of names at linebacker. Expect Bradham to rotate with Kiko Alonso as the Saints look to get back to the Super Bowl. They have one of the deepest rosters in the NFL.
The Eagles released Bradham on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Bradham just finished the second season of his five-year, $40 million contract, and he recorded his lowest tackle total (61) since the 2015 season. According to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer, this move will save the Eagles $4.5 million against the salary cap, and there's a slight chance he returns to the team on a low-cost contract. Otherwise, expect the 30-year-old to find a new franchise this offseason.
Bradham recorded 61 tackles (32 solo), one interception and five pass breakups across 12 regular season games in 2019.
He added five more stops in the Eagles' Wild Card loss to Seattle, four of them solo. The 30-year-old missed four games with an ankle injury in the middle of the season and was slightly more productive when he returned, recording 35 of his tackles in the latter half of the year. While the Eagles have an $8 million dollar option to bring him back next season, that number makes it unlikely to be picked up. Nevertheless, the eight-year vet says he'd like to be back with Philadelphia in 2020, so it's possible the two sides work something out.
