Perry Riley
Player News
Raiders have added LB Perry Riley to the active roster.
Riley was released by the Redskins in August after not returning as quickly from a foot injury as they had hoped. Now he is changing coasts and signing with the Silver and Black. Oakland needed a veteran presence in the linebacking core and now they have a solid option, once he learns the playbook that is. Riley won't make a marked difference in the overall effectiveness of the Raiders defense but it will certainly add quality depth.
Perry Riley was released by Washington on Tuesday.
Considered a high-priced backup, Riley just was a luxury that the Redskins could no longer afford after he lost his job to Mason Foster. Expect teams to be calling him prior to the season kicking off, as Riley is no doubt a player with talent.
Redskins removed Perry Riley Jr. from the physically unable to perform list.
Riley missed the final five games of least season and all offseason activities for the Redskins due to a broken bone in his right foot. The 28-year-old linebacker started 46 games for Washington from 2012-'14, averaging 67 tackles and three sacks per season in that stretch.
Perry Riley Jr. has been placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list.
The hope was for Riley to be ready by training camp so it’s discouraging the linebacker will miss the start due to the foot injury. Riley already has an uphill battle to win the starting spot so this just makes his chances even lower. In nine games last season, Riley finished with 44 combined tackles, two interceptions and no sacks.
