Mathias Kiwanuka
Player News
DE Mathias Kiwanuka has been informed of his release.
Kiwanuka has spent his entire nine year career in New York, but it looks like he will not be back next season. He started in 11 games with 2.5 sacks and 28 combined tackles.
The Giants will save close to $5 million in salary cap space if they decide to part ways with Mathias Kiwanuka as expected.
Kiwanuka, who turns 32 next month, had a career-low 2.5 sacks last season. The Giants had the 29th-ranked defense in the league last season with Kiwanuka, so cutting him cannot make them much worse. The Giants will likely focus on improving their defense through free agency and the draft, and if they do they will be worth considering in deep fantasy leagues.
Giants placed DE Mathias Kiwanuka, OL Adam Snyder and DE Robert Ayers on injured reserve.
All three players will be done for the season after being put on the injured reserve. They are practice squad players so the Giants will not have a hard time replacing them.
Mathias Kiwanuka (knee) will not play Sunday.
Kiwanuka was only able to put in two limited practices during the week and is still hampered by this knee injury. He\'ll take a seat this week against the Jaguars with Robert Ayers likely filling in and will try to make it back for Week 14.
