Saints release DE/LB Anthony Spencer from injured reserve.
Spencer was a mainstay on the Cowboys defensive line for years, but an injury meant he would never appear in New Orleans. He'll try to get healthy and resurface elsewhere.
Saints have signed LB Anthony Spencer to 1-year deal.
Injuries have upended the last two seasons for Spencer so the Cowboys had no problem letting the 31-year old walk via free agency. The Saints will kick the tires here and see what's left, but Spencer will likely be a part of a rotation rather than a full-time starter.
Free agent Anthony Spencer visited with the Saints on Monday.
Spencer will make the rounds, but might find it tough to find a team willing to take a shot on him after missing all of 2013 with microfracture surgery on his knee and then being forced into a limited reserve role last year because of it.
Free agent DE Anthony Spencer is not expected to re-sign with the Cowboys
Spencer has spent his entire eight year career in a Dallas uniform, but it seems like he is ready to move on. His best season came back in 2012 when he recorded 11 sacks and two forced fumbles. However, he has played in only 14 games the past two seasons, registering just half of a sack. Spencer will likely be a rotational guy on a team's defensive line.
