Lawrence will be 33 at the start of next season and has totaled just 13 sacks in his last 38 games. Far from the player he was in 2017 when he racked up a career-high 14.5 sacks, Lawrence could still provide value as a situational pass rusher to a team — assuming he’s fully recovered from his injury. While Canter expressed optimism about Lawrence returning to the Cowboys, that could ultimately come down to price. Per Over the Cap, the Cowboys have just over $3.8 million in cap space to use, and have several key players work out deals with this offseason.

Lawrence hasn’t played since suffering a Lisfranc injury in Week 4 against the Giants. It was an injury that was supposed to take 4-8 weeks recovery time, but Lawrence remains on injured reserve with just three games left to go in the season and has not had his 21-day return window opened. Lawrence is in the final year of a three-year extension he signed in 2022. If he’s not activated before the end of the season, then it’s possible that Week 4 game will be the last we’ve seen of him in a Cowboys uniform.
