Jets have fired defensive line coach Pepper Johnson.
The Jets are cleaning house with the firing of Johnson, DBs coach Joe Danna, and OLBs coach Mark Collins. Johnson is a big name in the NFL but the defensive line didn't perform up to expectations so Johnson will be looking for a new job.
Stephen Bowen has retired from the NFL.
The 10-year veteran finishes with 128 games played with 57 starts. Bowen accumulated 175 career tackles, 12.5 sacks, nine passes defended, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Stephen Bowen (knee) fully participated in Thursday's practice.
Bowen seems to be close to fully healthy and he will play on Sunday against the Browns.
Jets will sign former Redskins DE Stephen Bowen.
The Redskins have revamped their defensive line after injuries and lack of performance from Stephen Bowen just were not cutting it anymore. He was limited to just eight games last season because of a knee injury. Bowen played 243 largely-ineffective snaps. He had no sacks, and has only one over the past three seasons. Bowen is more known as a run stopper but struggled in that area as well. He will provide depth to the Jets already stout defensive line.
