Heath Miller announced his retirement from the NFL on Friday.
Two-time Super Bowl winner and former first round selection Heath Miller will not be running routes for Ben Roethlisberger or the Steelers in 2016. Miller has announced his retirement from football on Friday and his only team, the Steelers. He will retire as the leader in receptions (592), receiving yards (6,569) and receiving touchdowns (45) by a tight end in Pittsburgh history. Miller will also retire as one of four Steelers in history to record 500 receptions with the franchise and one of five to have over 6,000 receiving yards along with more than 40 touchdowns. In NFL history, Miller will finish with the sixth most receptions by a tight end and ninth in receiving yards at the position. He finished his career with at least 500 receiving yards for nine straight years and was the second Steeler after Hines Ward to do so. Pittsburgh will miss Miller's consistency and production during his career.
Heath Miller caught one pass on three targets for five yards during Pittsburgh's loss to the Broncos on Sunday.
The Steelers could have really used Miller over the middle of the field, but that didn't work out too well on Sunday. Miller was a hit-or-miss fantasy play all year long and only had a couple of standout games. He's a veteran that still has some gas left in the tank, but there is no question that his career is winding down. He is in line to be Pittsburgh's starting tight end next season, but it wouldn't be a surprise if the team started to look for his replacement in the NFL Draft as soon as this offseason.
Heath Miller caught two passes on three targets for nine yards during the Steelers win over Cincinnati on Saturday night.
Miller wasn't much of a factor on Saturday night, but that has been a trend throughout the season. He is very hit-or-miss on a week-to-week basis and didn't factor into Pittsburgh's game plan. It's possible that he will get a longer look next week against the Broncos.
