Mychal Rivera

Rivera will not be active for the Raiders Week 1 tilt against the Saints but he does not have any lingering injury that would prohibit him from playing if he was needed. The 26-year-old had a productive 2014 season where he was targeted 99 times and caught four touchdowns, but he has not been a factor in the Raiders offense since as he caught just 32 passes for 280 yards and one score in 2015. Lee Smith and Clive Walford are two targets that Derek Carr prefers more than Rivera, and the two tight ends have a great matchup today against a Saints team that allowed the most fantasy points per game to opposing tight ends in 2015.

The Raiders are unlikely to get much for Rivera, who has 128 catches for 1,221 yards and nine touchdowns in three NFL seasons. Even if Oakland doesn't find any takers, this is good news for second-year tight end Clive Walford. The Raiders want to get Walford more involved in the offense in his second year, making him an early sleeper at tight end.

At this point, none of the Raiders’ tight ends are worth owning. Derek Carr has shown time and again he doesn’t like going to them on a consistent basis, even when Michael Crabtree and Amari Cooper are covered. Rivera would be the one to own over Clive Walford, but even Rivera doesn’t show enough potential to be a starting tight end, even in deeper leagues.

Rivera was unable to haul even one pass today as Derek Carr has made it clear that he will not be looking the tight end's way. Rivera is of no fantasy value because he is too inconsistent and untrustworthy--made even more obvious by today's performance.
