James Jones
Player News
Chargers have released James Jones.
Jones had himself a resurgence of sorts out in Green Bay last season after a down year in Oakland, but he just didn't seem to have it in camp this time around. With the Chargers cutting him on Monday, don't be surprised if the Packers give him a call once again, as he will be a nice alternate any time they lose a wideout.
James Jones has struggled in training camp to make clean releases off of the line of scrimmage.
This is not great news for a wideout entering his age 32 season, who experienced a slight renaissance of sorts in 2015. Never showcasing any kind of success outside working with Aaron Rodgers, Jones once again has a lot to prove this season. Luckily he will not have to wear a hoodie underneath his pads as often this season with the Chargers as he did previously up in the frozen tundra of Green Bay.
James Jones has signed with the Chargers.
Jones was a breakout early seasons fantasy star after resigning with the Packers last season. Now he will have Philip Rivers throwing him the pigskin. San Diego was in need of a solid veteran presence in the receiving core and Jones should fill that role. Don't expect the same output as last season, but if you need a late round flier in the draft at the position, he may be worth a shot depending on who's still available.
Chargers are hosting WR James Jones for a visit Tuesday.
This comes after Stevie Johnson had to be 'carried off' the field yesterday and being diagnosed with a torn meniscus. Depending on the severity of that injury, Johnson can miss a few weeks or ending up missing months. Jones would be brought in as an extra body and hasn't garnered much interest since last season ended. If he does sign, he will be behind Keenan Allen, Travis Benjamin, Dontrelle Inman, and potentially Tyrell Williams. He's irrelevant in fantasy terms.
