The Chargers have a big hole to fill in their offense with the loss of Stevie Johnson for at least the beginning of the season with a torn meniscus. San Diego welcomed in Hartline and James Jones on Tuesday for work outs. If the Chargers thought this was just a couple week injury, you would not think they'd be so desperate to find a replacement. Hartline caught 46 balls for 523 yards and two scores with the Browns last season.

Hartline totaled 523 yards on 46 receptions, with two touchdowns in 12 games last season, his only year in Cleveland. Hartline is an average veteran receiver and could possibly help out a team look for a number 3 or 4 WR.

The move was just a formality as he had already been ruled out following the injury and knowing he was going to need surgery to repair it. By putting Hartline on IR it clears a spot on the Browns roster for them to add someone from the practice squad or sign a free agent. He will now take the off-season to recover from the surgery and should be fine come training camp next year.

The surgery will end Hartline's 2015 campaign after coming off the best game he's had in quite some time as he grabbed eight balls for 107 yards. With his departure now for the rest of the season, it leaves the Browns already mediocre receiving core that much thinner. Taylor Gabriel and Gary Barnidge so see more targets their way now down the stretch.
