Reggie Nelson (knee) is not expected to play Saturday.

Nelson has missed a lot of offseason activities for the Raiders and it looks like the Raiders will hold him out for their 3rd preseason game. The knee injury has been bugging Nelson throughout training camp as he's had to step off the field to work with trainers during Oakland's practices on Tuesday and Wednesday. Nate Allen and Karl Joseph will get most of the work on 1st team defense and are expected to play the entirety of the first half.

Update: Reggie Nelson got $4 million guaranteed with $8.5 million base in two-year deal he had signed with the Raiders.

Nelson picked up eight interceptions in 2015 so this $4 million in guaranteed money comes at no surprise as the Raiders expect him to be a big part of the secondary in 2016. Nelson will likely start alongside Larry Asante heading into next season in which the Raiders should boast an upgraded defense.

Raiders have signed Reggie Nelson to a two-year contract.

This is another huge pickup for the Raiders ever-improving defense, as they not only add a pro bowl safety here – one of their most glaring team needs – but they also snag a guy who led the NFL in interceptions just a year ago. This shouldn't change their strategy in the draft however, as they could still benefit from adding a strong safety and potentially another versatile defensive back that could play single-high or in the slot.
