Antrel Rolle

Chicago Bears - DB

Player News

Antrel Rolle has announced his retirement from the NFL.

The veteran safety will turn 34 in December and there just is not much of a market for his skill set at this point. Rolle had said multiple times throughout the off-season and during the season that he was "waiting for the right situation," well it never came. Rolle was not effective at all in his last injury-marred 2015 season with the Bears. He'll finish his NFL career with 26 career interceptions and 705 tackles.

Free-agent corner Antrel Rolle told reporters that he is still waiting for the right situation to come along before he signs with any team this offseason.

Rolle likely wants to latch on with a team that has the ability to contend. Rolle is 33 years old and given his position and professional experience, he doesn't likely have many more years in that body. He only appeared in seven games last season, but prior to that, he appeared in at least 15 games every year dating back to 2006.

Antrel Rolle is blaming the Bears practice field for his knee injury.

Interesting development, but regardless of who or what is at fault, Rolle is still down with a knee injury. He's said he wants to "bust their ass". Their meaning the Chicago Bears, because he was released following the injury. He has little fantasy value in IDP formats.

The Chicago Bears have cut safety Antrel Rolle.

Rolle's tenure in Chicago only lasted one year. It was a year that Rolle would like to forget, only appearing in seven games for the Bears, and recording only 35 total tackles, and failing to tally an interception for the first time in his career. The Bears addressed the safety spot in the draft by taking safties Deon Bush and Deiondre Hall. This move shows that they are expecting big things from the rookies, and if one earns a starting spot, it makes them worth a look in deeper IDP leagues. Rolle will look to catch on with another team and probably will. His days of being useful as an IDP safety appear to be over.
