Will Allen
Player News
Safety Will Allen said he is definitely not retired still wants to play this season.
The veteran safety was a nice IDP option at safety last season with 80 total tackles, four sacks and one interception for the Steelers. He remains a free agent at this point, but could still add some veteran depth to a team. It is unlikely he will replicate last seasons numbers, but he could be a late round IDP flyer if your league starts multiple DBs or safeties.
Will Allen is not expected to re-sign with the Steelers.
The Steelers had issues with their secondary last season, and losing Allen will only add to those woes. He is 34, so the thought is that he may be on the downside of his production. He will probably generate a starting role somewhere else if Pittsburgh passes on him with a one-year contract.
Will Allen likely return to practice this week.
The Steelers have been without the services of Will Allen since he left Week 5's game against the Chargers with an ankle injury. The veteran was suppose to be the replacement for Troy Polamalu in the Steelers defensive backfield. Shamarko Thomas has been his replacement. It looks good for Allen to return in Week 9.
Will Allen (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 8.
Allen tried testing out his ankle again Friday but it was obvious to the Steelers that he needed some additional time off. Robert Golden will handle the work in the secondary for him this week.
