NFL Network's Jim Trotter reports the Colts are the most likely landing spot for free agent S Eric Berry.
The veteran safety is expected to return in 2020 after sitting out all of last season with injuries. Berry said he received offers in 2019 but wanted to make sure he was healthy enough to play before rushing back. Now comfortable with his playing level, Berry is looking to make comeback and the Colts are the early favorite. Berry is close friends with Colts edge rusher Justin Houston, and he probably wants to play for a playoff-contending team at this stage of his career. With his injury history, any team that signs Berry is taking on risk.
Berry said Sunday that he plans to play in the NFL next season, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Per Garafolo, Berry had a few opportunities to play this past season, but turned them down in order to get healthier mentally and physically. It was a tough 2019 for the veteran, as he was cut by Kansas City in the offseason and battled a heel issue. It's still not clear how much of a market there will be for the 31-year-old, who's played just three games over the past two seasons.
The Cowboys don't have interest in signing Berry (heel), multiple sources told Mike Fisher of 105.3 The Fan Dallas reports.
Berry visited Dallas in March after he was released from Kansas City, but he left without a deal and the Cowboys signed another veteran in George Iloka just days later. While Berry reportedly intends to sign a deal somewhere before the start of training camp, it's not clear how much of a market there is for the 30-year-old who's missed 29 of 32 games over the past two seasons.
Berry (heel) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Raiders, BJ Kissel of the Chiefs' official site reports.
Berry practiced in full until Friday when he was downgraded to a non-participant. If the Chiefs would earn a first-round bye if they can beat the Raiders on Sunday, which would give the veteran safety some additional time to rest up.
