Roman Harper
Player News
Saints plan to use Roman Harper in part time role.
At 33, he is getting long in the tooth as far as NFL players go, especially for safeties, but he is still fairly productive. The last two seasons in Carolina he played in all 32 regular season games and registered 135 total tackles and four interceptions combined. New Orleans won't want run him down so the part-time role sounds about right. He should give the Saints a nice punch in the secondary to improve their overall defensive effectiveness.
Roman Harper signed a one-year, $1.065 million deal with the Saints.
After two seasons in Carolina, Harper is returning to the team he spent the first eight years of his career. Harper had some really excellent seasons in New Orleans, recording 17 sacks and seven interceptions during his tenure. He hasn't really shown any signs of slowing down, despite his old age.
Panthers voided the contract of safety Roman Harper.
Harper has started at strong safety for the Panthers, but his age and contract combination just isn't worth keeping around for the Panthers.
Roman Harper (eye) said he will be ready for the Super Bowl.
Along with Thomas Davis, Harper suffered an injury in the Panthers' blowout win over the Cardinals. But just like Davis, he is adamant he will be ready to go in two weeks. The Panthers are full of some really tough guys who are fully ready to go for their first Super Bowl. Harper is key in the Panthers' elite secondary in slowing down Peyton Manning and Co. -- even though Manning and their offense has been terrible all year.
