Jets hired Chris Harris, formerly of the Titans, to the coaching staff.

Harris was interviewed for the Jets defensive coordinator role, but that job ended up going to Steve Wilks. Now, Harris will join the Jets in a role that is yet to be determined but will likely mirror the one he previously held in Tennessee when he was the pass game coordinator and cornerbacks coach.

Harris, who parted ways with the Titans at the end of the regular season, is in the running to work as Aaron Glenn’s defensive coordinator. Glenn said he won’t call plays as New York’s head coach. Harris has taken on various roles with the Titans, Commanders, Chargers, and Bears since entering the coaching ranks in 2012 following his NFL career as a safety. Tennessee’s defense last season allowed the NFL’s fifth highest drop back EPA.

Former Broncos and Chargers CB Chris Harris Jr. officially announced his retirement from the NFL.

The 34-year-old decided to hang it up after he “realized everybody was pretty much moving on with the younger players.” The 12-year veteran will retire with 22 interceptions for 508 yards and four touchdowns. He was most known for being part of the “No Fly Zone,” in Denver along with Aqib Talib, Darian Stewart, T.J. Ward, and Bradley Roby. A group that helped lead the Broncos to victory in Super Bowl 50. Harris was undrafted out of Kansas but played for the Broncos from 2011-19, while making four Pro Bowls, earning one first-team All-Pro nod, and being named to the 2010s All-Decade Team. After leaving the Broncos, Harris played with the Los Angeles Chargers from 2020-21 and the New Orleans Saints in 2022, which was his last year in the NFL.

Texans requested permission to interview Titans DBs coach Chris Harris for their defensive coordinator vacancy.

Harris was snatched up this offseason by the Titans to coach defensive backs after a similar role in Washington the past few seasons, but Harris has interviewed with the Eagles in 2021, the Colts in 2022, and the 49ers and Texans this offseason for defensive coordinator positions. He's definitely a plausible candidate as the Texans try to firm up what's happening under DeMeco Ryans.
