Rashean Mathis has announced his retirement from the NFL.
The 13-year career of Rashean Mathis has been on that appears to go under-rated. He has always been one of the better cover corners in the league. He spent the first 10 years of his career in Jacksonville, being named to the First-Team All Pro in 2006. The next three years were with Detroit where his numbers were on the decline. Throughout his career, Mathis had 32 interceptions, eight forced fumbles, and 187 passes defended. The Lions will need to find help in the secondary over the course of the off-season.
Rashean Mathis (concussion) has been given a clean bill of health but says his football future is still in doubt. Retirement is on the table.
Mathis has suffered a few concussions in his time in the NFL and this last one has him doubting if he will ever be able to step onto the field again. He was cleared with a clean bill of health but at this point, Mathis is thinking about his future and not just the present. He will take the offseason to really think things through, but retirement is a definite possibility at this point.
