Jamar Taylor
Player News
49ers placed CBs Jamar Taylor (knee) and Ken Webster (hamstring) on injured reserve.
Neither are impact players, but more I.R. placements is the last thing the 49ers' injury-decimated defense needs. Taylor had been operating as Niners' primary slot corner since Week 5. Elite coordinator Robert Saleh will continue to do all he can to duct tape and glue his defense.
49ers signed CB Jamar Taylor to a one-year contract.
Once a promising talent with the Dolphins and Browns early in his career, Taylor, set to turn 30 in September, just hasn't been the same player since leaving Cleveland following the 2017 season. He picked off three passes and broke up 23 others in two years with the Browns only to bounce around the league the past two years. San Francisco is his fifth team since the start of the 2018 campaign. He'll be a long shot to make the roster.
Taylor signed with the Falcons on Tuesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Taylor spent nine games with the Seahawks this season, working primarily as a slot corner and allowing 6.5 YPA. The Falcons can use the depth in their secondary after Desmond Trufant (forearm) was ruled out for the season, but it's unsettled whether Taylor will immediately draw in Sunday against the 49ers.
The Seahawks waived Taylor on Wednesday.
Taylor worked as the team's slot corner, allowing a 62.5 completion percentage and 6.5 YPA. Those numbers aren't bad by any measure, but the Seahawks may be comfortable with their depth in Neiko Thorpe and Akeem King. If Taylor clears waivers, he's a prime candidate for Seattle's practice squad.
