Andre Williams

Kenneth Farrow is now on the I.R. as of Monday and Melvin Gordon is still iffy to play with a hip issue, leaving San Diego very thin at the running back spot. Andre Williams, the former Giant, has been added to the roster to provide depth behind Ronnie Hillman as the second playable back. He won't factor in terms of fantasy relevance for the season finale.

After being cut from the NY Giants after two seasons at the beginning of the month, the San Diego chargers picked up polarizing RB Andre Williams. Three weeks later, he was waived, and eventually cleared those waivers on Tuesday. With the Chargers dealing with issues in the back field, especially after the loss of RB Danny Woodhead for the season, it appears that depth is an important factor, and having a back like Williams on your practice squad is solid security, as the season still has a very long way to go.

Williams was the roster casualty of Antonio Gates' injury. With Gates looking doubtful for Sunday's game against the Colts, the Chargers signed tight end Asante Cleveland as insurance. Williams was claimed by the Chargers off of waivers from the Giants on September 4th, but San Diego has enough depth even without Danny Woodhead to be able to cut Williams. He will likely latch on somewhere as running back depth, but he's proven to be an ineffective running back in the NFL.

Another recent player waived from a New York team has found a new home. He will likely be the 3rd back for the Chargers behind Gordon and Woodhead.
