Update: Shonn Greene has been released by the Titans.
The plodding back was a no-brainer to be cut with his $3.35 million salary. Tennessee drafted David Cobb as their new bruiser so Greene was obviously expendable. The ineffective rusher will be lucky to latch on elsewhere.
The Titans plan to release running back Shonn Greene Tuesday.
Greene had already been demoted to the third string, but now will have to find a job. Bishop Sankey will become the big time back in Tennessee with newly drafted David Cobb taking the backup position.
Shonn Greene plans to participate in the mandatory minicamp this week. He skipped the voluntary workouts this offseason.
Greene is facing competition from both second-year RB Bishop Sankey and 2015 fifth-round pick David Cobb. He best show some moves during the mandatory workouts if he hopes to make an impression on the coaching staff in Tennessee.
Shonn Greene is not participating in offseason workouts because of a family issue.
The Titans drafted David Cobb in the fifth round of last week's draft, which is seen as a precursor to Greene's time being limited in Tennessee. Tennessee's backfield is a mess, but it is expected that Bishop Sankey emerge as the starter and most fantasy relevant running back. Greene hasn't attended camp yet because he has been spending time with his three-week-old son.
