DeAngelo Williams
Player News
Williams said he wants to play in the NFL this season, ESPN.com reports.
The Steelers seem content with some combination of James Conner (hamstring), Knile Davis and Fitzgerald Toussaint serving as the backups to Le'Veon Bell (knee). The 34-year-old Williams might get a call from his former team if one of those players suffers a serious injury, but in all likelihood he'll need to find a new team in order to continue his career. After averaging 4.5 yards on 200 carries and 7.8 yards on 47 targets in 2015, he dropped off to 3.5 yards on 98 carries and 4.4 yards on 27 targets in nine games last season. Continuing his career might mean accepting a job with a team that wants him to battle for a roster spot.
DeAngelo Williams and Fitzgerald Toussaint are expected to split carries in the backfield in Week 17.
Le'Veon Bell is not playing in Week 17 and as he's been the bell cow since returning from suspension in Week 4, we'll finally see what the rest of the Steeler backfield has to offer. It should be Williams getting early down work with Toussiant mixing in. Williams is a RB2 for Week 17 based on sheer volume.
DeAngelo Williams practiced in full on Thursday.
In practicing full on Thursday, Williams will be ready to go in Week 16. He won't see the field much with the way Lev Bell has played lately, but he'll be ready if Bell were to come down with an injury of some sort.
DeAngelo Williams (knee) is expected to play Week 16.
This is the news Williams and the Steelers have been hoping for. After experiencing swelling in his surgically-repaired knee Sunday morning. The setback led to Williams missing Week 15. Williams will only play when LeVeon Bell needs a breather.
