C.J. Spiller

The Chiefs were forced to turn to fullback Anthony Sherman as their top ballcarrier in the Week 17 win over the Broncos, as Charcandrick West (illness) was ruled out in advance of the contest, No. 1 back Kareem Hunt was shut down mid-game to avoid an injury heading into the postseason and Akeem Hunt exited with an ankle issue. Kareem Hunt should be back in the fold as the Chiefs' workhorse out of the backfield during Saturday's wild-card matchup against the Titans, but the team's re-signing of Spiller suggests both West and Akeem Hunt are at some risk of missing the playoff game. If both West and Akeem Hunt are unavailable Saturday, Spiller, who appeared in one regular-season contest for Kansas City before being waived in October, could serve as Kareem Hunt's primary understudy.

Spiller was temporarily let go by the Chiefs, but whether they had eyes on another running back move, or Saturday's transaction was procedural, Spiller is back in the fold to provide backfield depth and experience behind Kareem Hunt and Charcandrick West.

Neither Ross or Spiller have done much in their respective times on the Jets and have now become expendable. The Jets need to find out what else they have on their roster and potentially sign a couple of guys off the practice squad for the last four games in order to fully get the needed rebuild underway. Both guys are unlikely to catch on to another team this late in the season.

Just a few days after being claimed off of waivers by the Jets, it appears as though Spiller will be active this week against the Dolphins. Spiller most likely will not get much work today seeing that he's listed as the third-string running back behind Matt Forte and Bilal Powell.
