He later played for the Bills, Chiefs, and Buccaneers, finishing his career with 11,102 yards rushing, 3,898 receiving yards, and 89 combined touchdowns. McCoy will be eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2025.
LeSean McCoy announced his retirement.
Philadelphia's all-time leading rusher with 6,792 yards (and 300 catches for 2,282 yards), McCoy will sign a one-day contract with the Eagles and be honored with Andy Reid present at halftime of Sunday's contest against the Chiefs. A second-round pick out of Pittsburgh in the 2009 draft, 'Shady' rushed for 11,102 yards and 4.5 yards per carry with 518 receptions for 3,898 receiving yards across 12 NFL seasons. He totaled 89 touchdowns, being named to six Pro Bowls with two 1st-team All-Pro nods and back-to-back Super Bowl rings as a backup with the Chiefs and Buccaneers. McCoy walks away at the ripe age of 33.
Impending free agent LeSean McCoy said he plans to play next season.
McCoy wants to sign with a contender or somewhere he can serve as veteran depth. There’s unlikely to be much interest after McCoy looked washed in the 10 games he appeared in last year, but with Super Bowls in back-to-back seasons, some team may be willing to give him a non-guaranteed deal. McCoy turns 32 in July.
LeSean McCoy was held without a touch in the Bucs' Super Bowl LV win over the Chiefs.
McCoy faded further to irrelevance during his age-32 campaign, handling the ball just 25 times during the regular season before failing to notch a postseason touch. One of the league’s best backs for the better part of a decade, McCoy is simply used up as he heads back to free agency. He had said he would consider retirement if the Bucs won this evening, and that he would like to retire as an Eagle. With step one secured, step two might not be far behind.
