A back injury limited the rookie linebacker to just five tackles in seven games playing exclusively on special teams in 2019. Gilbert is under contract until 2023 and will likely play a similar role in 2020 if healthy.

Gilbert, who was selected by the Steelers in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, was bothered by a nagging back injury in recent weeks. The issue forced him to miss a Week 8 win over the Dolphins, though he was able to return and log 15 snaps on special teams Sunday. In a corresponding roster move, Pittsburgh promoted fellow inside linebacker Robert Spillane from the practice squad with Gilbert on his way to IR.

Gilbert was held out of Monday's win over the Dolphins, but he now appears back to full health. The rookie sixth-round pick is on track to contribute on special teams during Sunday's tilt against the Colts.

Gilbert popped up on the injury report late in the week Saturday, and officially won't go in primetime. His absence likely won't effect the defense however, and Jayrone Elliott could be in line to see an uptick in special teams snaps for the contest.
