The Patriots released EDGE Trey Flowers, who was not activated within his 21-day injured reserve activation window.
The deadline for the Patriots to activate Flowers was this week, but he was seemingly not healthy yet. Flowers began the season on the PUP list and his second stint with the Patriots is cut short as the team chose to release him.
Flowers, who missed most of the 2022 season with a foot injury, will begin his second stint with New England. He played there from 2015 to 2018 before leaving for a monster contract in Detroit. Flowers will likely be a rotational pass rusher for the Patriots, graded by Pro Football Focus as the NFL’s 11th best pass rush in 2022.
Patriots hosted free agent EDGE Trey Flowers for a visit.
Flowers spent last season with the Dolphins but was placed on injured reserve with a foot injury in mid-October. The veteran pass rusher appeared in just four games for the Dolphins and managed just four tackles. Flowers has 31.5 career sacks and multiple seasons with six or more sacks. If he joins the Patriots, he’ll likely do so as a situational pass rusher.

Flowers was signed just ahead of Week 1 after getting released by the Lions way earlier in the offseason. The 29-year-old registered zero sacks on 65 defensive snaps through six weeks.
