Lions signed free agent DB Tony McRae.
Surprisingly, McRae never played for the Patriots. McRae has played in 37 games since entering the league in 2017, almost exclusively being used as a defensive reserve and special team contributor. Overall, he has just 22 career tackles and two pass deflections.
McRae has cleared the concussion protocol Thursday and was a full participant in practice, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.
McRae sustained a concussion during Week 16's overtime loss to the Dolphins, but he now looks back to full health. With William Jackson (shoulder) ruled out for Sunday's regular-season finale against the Browns, McRae could be in line to play an expanded role in Cincinnati's secondary.
McRae won't return to Sunday's game against the Dolphins due to a concussion and neck strain.
It's unclear how McRae picked up the knock, but the fact that he was immediately declared out is not a great sign for the injury. Expect the team to have some specifics on the injury in the coming days, but for the remainder of the game, B.W. Webb and Greg Mabin are in line to see an increase in depth snaps.
McRae is expected to play a starting role during Sunday's game against the Rams, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
McRae's increased role on defense comes with Dre Kirkpatrick (knee) and Darqueze Dennard (hamstring) both inactive. The 26-year-old normally does most of his damage on special teams.
