Toby Gerhart
Player News
Broncos worked out former Vikings and Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart.
Save for his one 500+ yard season, he hasn't really been a factor on an NFL football field in a few seasons, and only played seven games for Jacksonville in 2015. Denver is looking for depth at the running back spot and Gerhart is a guy that could fill that. No word on a signing yet however.
Toby Gerhart will be released at 4 p.m., Jaguars GM David Caldwell says.
Heading into the 2014 season, Gerhart was expected to become the feature back in Jacksonville. However, that role was short lived. The one-time Stanford star basically flamed out over the last couple of seasons and had fallen way back in the depth chart.
Jaguars will release RB Toby Gerhart on Wednesday.
Remember when Toby Gerhart went to Jacksonville from Minnesota and was being drafted as like a top 40 fantasy pick? It seems like it was ages ago, but that was only 2014. But we'd all like to forget it, especially if you drafted him, as Gerhart managed only 3.2 yards per carry that season wit a whopping two touchdowns. His absence won't be felt in Jacksonville, and his presence elsewhere, if he's signed, won't be impactful.
Toby Gerhart will have surgery on Thursday to repair a sports hernia.
The team officially played Gerhart on season-ending injured reserve on Saturday. Toby has not had much success since signing in 2014 with the Jaguars, touching the ball just 144 times for 579 yards in just 21 games played. He signed a three-year, $10.5 million and is still owed $3.5 million in salary and bonuses next season. That's a lot of money to pay a back up running back in this league. He will likely be cut this off-season to save room under the salary cap. The Jaguars called up wide receiver Rashad Lawrence from the practice squad to take his roster spot.
