Tim Hightower
Player News
Tim Hightower is expected to open the season as the Saints backup running back.
C.J. Spiller and Travaris Cadet are the other potential backup running backs, though Cadet has never recorded more than 11 carries in a season and C.J. Spiller is reportedly well behind Hightower on the depth chart.
Tim Hightower's deal is with the Saint's is for 1 year, with a base salary of $760,000.
After playing for the first time in nearly four years, Hightower had an impressive final four games with the Saints last season. Over those last four games, he averaged 21 carries for 85 yards and had 4 touchdowns, including a 122 yd/2 TD game against the Jaguars. Hightower will have to compete for playing time this season with Mark Ingram and C.J. Spiller.
Saints re-signed RB Tim Hightower.
After being out of the league since 2011, Hightower made a most improbable return to the NFL this past season. The veteran running back played in eight games (three starts) for the Saints, rushing for 375 yards and four touchdowns on 96 carries. Hightower will begin next season at age 30.
Free-agent RB Tim Hightower will meet with the Saints this week.
Hightower finished the 2015 season as the primary back in New Orleans because of injury after going four years without a carry. That backfield belongs to Mark Ingram, so Hightower's value is not there unless Ingram misses significant time. Don't forget the C.J. Spiller is there too, so this would be a depth move for the team.
