T.J. Logan will undergo surgery for a patellar tendon injury.
The Athletic’s Greg Auman suggests it’s “not necessarily season-ending.” It’s a tough break for a 25-year-old kick returner in a contract year. A torn patellar tendon for Logan would put his career in doubt.
Buccaneers RB T.J. Logan was carted off the field from practice on Thursday.
Logan was in competition with Raymond Calais, Scotty Miller, and Jaydon Mickens for punt return duties. Any extended absence would likely entrench Calais on the team's 53-man roster to start the season.
Logan (thumb) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
Logan broke his thumb while fielding punts during last Friday's practice, and he was ruled out for the season following the incident, so his placement on IR was a formality. The 25-year-old running back rarely played on offense this season, but he's a skilled specialist with 9.5 yards per punt return.
Logan suffered a broken thumb during Friday's practice, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Logan appeared in 12 games with the Buccaneers this season, racking up 10 yards on three carries and catching two of three targets for 13 yards. He did most of his damage on special teams, accumulating 271 and 124 yards on kick and punt returns, respectively. With Scott Miller (hamstring) also expected to miss Week 14, Justin Watson stands to field punt returns versus the Colts on Sunday.
