Cardinals signed TE Stephen Anderson, formerly of the Chargers, to a one-year contract.
Anderson is primarily a blocker and contributor on special teams. He logged 345 snaps on offense last year but only caught 16 passes. With Zach Ertz playing a considerable role as a pass-catcher, Anderson will compete with Maxx Williams for blocking reps in Arizona.
Jets released TE Ryan Griffin.
After signing C.J. Uzomah and Tyler Conklin in free agency, Griffin's days on New York's roster were numbered. The move will save the Jets roughly $3.2 million in cap space. Griffin was unable to much with a starting role in 2021, totaling a 27/261/2 receiving line across 14 games. A capable blocker with nearly a decade of experience under his belt, Griffin should be able to find work as a backup for the 2022 season.
Chargers re-signed TE Stephen Anderson.
Anderson played 66% of his snaps on special teams last year, primarily serving as the team's blocking tight end. He'll be used as such again with both Jared Cook and Donald Parham available as pass catchers.
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports the Chargers are hoping to re-sign TE Stephen Anderson.
Anderson was non-tendered earlier this month. The blocking tight end played 66% of his snaps on special teams last year. Anderson could be brought back by the Chargers at a lower salary.
