Thomas received a four-game suspension from the NFL for violating its substance-abuse policy, Craig Hoffman of 106.7 The Fan Washington reports.
Accordingly, Thomas' season is over. He can return after the first game of the 2020 season. Danny Johnson (knee) is scheduled to come off the PUP list this week and could take the 26-year-old's spot on the active roster.
Thomas will start at cornerback in the absence of Josh Norman in Week 12 against the Lions, Kareem Copeland of The Washington Post reports.
Thomas played a season-high 14 snaps in the the team's Week 11 loss to the Jets after Norman was benched. With Norman inactive, Thomas will join Quinton Dunbar and Fabian Moreau as the team's primary cornerbacks.
Thomas signed a contract with the Redskins on Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Thomas was signed from the Seahawks' practice squad. Originally drafted in the sixth round of this year's draft by Cleveland, Thomas now has a chance to provide depth to Washington's secondary amid injuries to Fabian Moreau (ankle) and Danny Johnson (knee).
Thomas (groin) recorded one assisted tackle during Thursday's preseason tilt against the Broncos.
Thomas is fully healthy after having been hindered by a groin injury during rookie camp, which he participated in despite his veteran status. The second-year pro is competing for a depth role in Seattle's secondary.
