Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, DeValve's operation "repaired a tendon and removed a cyst in one of his toes." The 27-year-old was cut by the Panthers last week. Coming off a 12/140/0 campaign with the Jaguars, DeValve will be aiming to hit the free agent workout circuit by late September. 

Cleveland's fourth-round pick in 2016, Carolina released DeValve with an undisclosed non-football injury only a few months into the 27-year-old's contract. A part-time player with the Jaguars (12/140) last year, it will admittedly be tough for DeValve to latch on anywhere until facilities re-open to players. Expect him to sign elsewhere later this summer.

DeValve spent last year in a part-time role with the Jaguars, making 12 appearances (six starts). He'll help replace Greg Olsen in Carolina. DeValve gives the Panthers a No. 2 tight end to pair with Ian Thomas.

The 26-year-old ended up playing four fewer snaps than No. 3 tight end Ben Koyack -- Nick O'Leary (shoulder) was inactive -- despite delivering a season-high 45 yards Week 16. DeValve posted 12 catches for 140 yards and zero touchdowns in 12 games during his first season in Jacksonville. The role reduction in the season finale may be an indication the Jaguars will allow DeValve to hit free agency in March and pursue other opportunities.
