Scott Chandler says his career is likely over after knee surgery.
The 30-year old has dealt with various knee problems, and his latest knee surgery will keep him out for most, if not all, of next season. It sounds like it will be hard for Chandler to return from this, but hopefully he can make a comeback in 2017.
Patriots have released Scott Chandler.
Chandler was not much of a factor for the Patriots this past season and the team did not want to shell out $3.05M against the cap to bring him back for second campaign in New England. Chandler grabbed 23 passes for 259 yards and four touchdowns over 15 games in 2015.
Jets offensive coordinator Chan Gailey could be interested in reuniting with Scott Chandler this offseason as he is expected to be released by the Patriots.
Much of what happens to Scott Chandler is dependent on what the Patriots decide to do with the veteran tight end. If Chandler is cut by New England, then a potential move to the Jets to reunite with former coach Chan Gailey is a possibility. Chandler caught 23 of his 42 targets in New England in 2015 for 259 yards and four touchdowns. The catches and targets are the lowest for Chandler since 2011.
Patriots beat writers believe Scott Chandler will be released this offseason.
Chandler signed a two-year, $5.3 million deal with just $2 million in guaranteed money. They obviously view him as being too expensive a back-up for Rob Gronkowski and will stick with a much cheaper alternative.
