Giants waived CB Sam Beal.
It's amazing he lasted this long after pleading guilty to gun-related charges in June. Beal appeared in nine total games over four seasons with New York, playing one defensive snap last week and immediately being waived.
Giants CB Sam Beal pleaded guilty to gun-related charges stemming from a June 2020 arrest near Cleveland.
A third-round pick in the 2018 supplemental draft, Beal was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, improperly handling a firearm in a vehicle and marijuana possession on June 2 last year and later indicted on the gun charges on August 13. He'll receive two years of probation and be ordered to pay court costs and court-appointed attorney fees. The 24-year-old was already a long shot to make the Giants' roster since he hasn't played in practically two years after opting out of 2020 and spending most of 2019 on injured reserve, inevitably going down as one of GM Dave Gettleman's worst selections.
Giants CB Sam Beal opted out of the 2020 season.
Beal will receive the NFLPA agreed upon salary and is ineligible to return in 2020. Beal spent most of last season on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. He'll be competing for a final roster spot during the 2021 offseason when he returns.
Beal (shoulder) recorded 26 tackles (20 solo) and one defended pass across six contests in 2019.
After missing his entire rookie season due to a shoulder injury, Beal managed to retake the field Week 10 of the 2019 campaign and ramp up to a starting workload between Week 14 and 16. He was forced to miss the Giants' regular-season finale due a shoulder injury of undisclosed severity, but there's not yet any reason to worry about his availability for OTAs.
