Raiders re-signed RB Rod Smith to a one-year contract.
Buried on the depth chart behind Josh Jacobs and Jalen Richard, Smith will spend most of his snaps on special teams. The 28-year-old has averaged 3.6 yards on his 101 career carries.
Smith signed with the Raiders on Tuesday.
Josh Jacobs is tending to a fractured shoulder and his status is uncertain for Sunday's game against the Jaguars, so Smith will join the Raiders to add depth to the backfield. DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard carried the load during Week 14's loss to the Titans, posting 96 and 46 yards from scrimmage, respectively, while the former scored a rushing touchdown. It's unclear whether Smith will have a role in the offense if Jacobs sits out, but it'll likely be minimal at best.
Brown had a try out with the Raiders on Monday, freelance NFL writer Howard Balzer reports.
Smith was waived by the Titans last week after suiting up for just three games with the club. The journeyman running back has primarily been a special-teams contributor and is now looking to earn a job in Oakland. He would presumably land on the team's practice squad first if he did make enough of an impression during his workout.
Smith was waived by Tennessee on Tuesday, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
Smith played just three games for the team this season, seeing only special-teams work over three contests. Derrick Henry and Dion Lewis continue to hold down the fort in Nashville.
