Robert Mathis
Player News
Robert Mathis will announce his retirement from the NFL after Week 17 game against Jacksonville.
And so ends an illustrious 14 year career, all with the Colts. Over his time in the NFL, Mathis recorded 122 total sacks, including 19.5 in 2013. He and Dwight Freeney were arguably the best defensive tandem in the NFL for several years.
Robert Mathis is expected to play Week 15.
A lot of people had their eyes on Colts practice this week to monitor the status of Mathis after he admitted to having a slight tear in his bicep. If he does play against Minnesota he'll play a pretty big rule in shutting down the returning Adrian Peterson. The Colts don't have a top defense, but Mathis's veteran presence helps them in this matchup against a struggling Vikings team.
Robert Mathis (biceps) practiced in full Thursday.
Mathis thought he had a good chance of returning for Week 14, but that didn't happen. The fact that he got in a full practice at the key Thursday session is a good sign for his availability in Week 15 against Minnesota. He has played in a 11 games this season for Indy and accumulated 3.0 sacks and 16 total tackles in that span. His presence will be a boost for the Colts however likely won't be a game changer.
Robert Mathis (bicep) has returned to practice Thursday.
