Giants released Ricky Seals-Jones with an injury settlement.
Seals-Jones spent most of his Giants career sidelined by a toe injury before landing on injured reserve last week. This settlement will allow him to sign with a new team once he is healthy, but when that will be remains an open question.
Giants placed TE Ricky Seals-Jones (toe) on injured reserve.
The designation ends his season with the Giants, though he could be released in an injury settlement and sign elsewhere. Signed to be the bar for Daniel Bellinger to climb over, Seals-Jones barely even took part in most of OTAs and training camp with the toe issue. He'll hang around the league, but he's probably looking at backup roles going forward.
The Athletic's Dan Duggan believes TE Ricky Seals-Jones should be the Giants starter when healthy.
Seals-Jones, who signed with New York after one season in Washington, has missed nearly all of training camp with an undisclosed injury. Daniel Bellinger has worked as the team's starting tight end for much of camp and in preseason games. He's been mostly disastrous, recently dropping a pass from Daniel Jones that resulted in an interception against the Bengals. Seals-Jones could have some fantasy relevance in 2022 simply because the Giants have the worst tight end grouping in the NFL.
Giants HC Brian Daboll said Ricky Seals-Jones (undisclosed) will miss his fourth-straight practice on Tuesday.
The Giants signed Seals-Jones to a one-year contract this offseason after losing Evan Engram to the Jaguars in free agency. Despite signing with the team in March, Seals-Jones is a potential cut candidate with rookie tight end Daniel Bellinger already working with the first team and veteran Jordan Akins also on the roster. Seals-Jones is off the fantasy radar, but Bellinger remains an interesting stash in dynasty leagues.
