Reshad Jones
Player News
Free agent S Reshad Jones' offseason neck surgery has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This means Jones, now 32 years old, is unlikely to find a team this season due to the inability to pass a physical and ultimately could be the end of his career. A two-time pro bowler, Jones produced a 10-year career after being drafted in the fifth-round, and was considered one of the league's better safeties for a few seasons. Jones landed on injured reserve last season due to chest and ankle injuries after just four games.
Dolphins released S Reshad Jones.
The move won't be official until March 18, but Miami will end up saving $5.3 million against the cap. It was a logical move for a team that's rebuilding and looking for younger talent. Jones, who will be entering his age-32 season this fall, ended up on injured reserve in 2019. Expect Jones to have interest on the open market, but he may have to sign a short-term deal.
Jones (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
Jones struggled with rib and chest injuries over the past month, and there's no indication that his current condition is related. The 31-year-old has only played four games this year. Bobby McCain (shoulder) was placed on IR as well, so Steven Parker and Eric Rowe are expected to assume starting duties.
Jones produced six tackles during Sunday's 37-20 loss to Buffalo.
Making his return from a four-game absence, Jones logged 67 percent of the defensive snaps and parlayed that playing time into a handful of tackles. He should get even more playing time as he further distances himself from his chest and ribs injuries.
