Giants released EDGE Oshane Ximines.
Ximines became expendable after the Giants went out and acquired EDGE Carlos “Boogie” Basham from the Bills. Ximines was selected by the Giants in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft and has totaled 6.5 sacks in 45 career games. Given the value of EDGE rushers in the NFL, it won’t be surprising to see Ximines catch on with another team.
Giants re-signed EDGE Oshane Ximines to a one-year contract.
The Giants took Ximines in the third round in 2019. He posted an impressive season as a rookie, totaling 4.5 sacks as a rotational pass-rusher. However, injuries cost him 18 games over the next two years. He returned for a solid season in 2022, notching a pair of sacks and three TFLs over 15 games. Ximines will return for a part-time role on the Giants' defense this year.
Ximines notched 25 tackles (11 solo), 4.5 sacks and one defended pass across 16 contests in 2019.
Ximines showed well as a rotational linebacker in his rookie season. The 2019 third-round pick will likely reprise a similar role for 2020, and he could be in line to garner additional snaps should he log an impressive offseason.
Ximines is starting against the Vikings in Week 5, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Ximines has seen significant work as a a backup this season, playing a majority of defensive snaps the past two weeks. With Lorenzo Carter (neck) inactive, Ximines is drawing the spot start and he'll figure to see an increase in workload for the day.
