Bengals signed LT Orlando Brown, formerly of the Chiefs, to a four-year, $64.092 million contract.
The Bengals continue to revamp their offensive line for star quarterback Joe Burrow. In his brief five-year career, Brown has blocked for the likes of Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes, and will now anchor the left side of the Bengals' offensive line for the foreseeable future. After starting every game of his career at left tackle, fifth-year vet Jonah Williams will likely slide over to right tackle in the final year of his deal, while La'el Collins likely turns into a trade candidate or cap casualty. The Bengals can release Collins pre-June 1 and save $6.05 million in cap. Brown's $31 million signing bonus makes for a rather front-loaded contract, as he'll earn roughly $16 million in annual base salary.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Chiefs are "moving on from" Orlando Brown.
After failing to work out a new deal with Brown this offseason, the Chiefs went out and acquired Jaguars OT Jawaan Taylor to take over at left tackle. Brown, who has been one of the more popular tackles in the league since being drafted by the Ravens in 2018, ranks 21st among all left tackles in pressures allowed rate since 2021, but will likely fetch top money on the free agent market.
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports the Chiefs don't intend to use the franchise tag on LT Orlando Brown.
The Chiefs tagged Brown last offseason, but won't pay the premium to give him a second tag this offseason. Brown turned down a six-year, $139 million deal last offseason, but is still communicating with the team as the two sides look to work out a long-term deal. The Chiefs will have until next Monday to sign Brown before he is free to negotiate with other teams. Last season, Brown allowed 47 quarterback pressures and four sacks per PFF, earning a pass block grade of 77.2.
Chiefs GM Brett Veach said the team is in talks to extend OL Orlando Brown.
Brown played last year under the franchise tag after the Chiefs couldn't reach a long-term deal. The sides should have a better chance of getting something done now that Brown has an agent. Brown turned down a six-year, $139 million deal with a $30 million signing bonus last offseason. Kansas City is expected to franchise Brown a second time if he's not extended before Tuesday's deadline.
