Nick Keizer
Player News
Chiefs TE Nick Keizer retired after three years in the NFL.
Keizer earned his first regular season snaps in 2020 with the Chiefs. He played primarily on special teams but also logged six receptions for 63 yards while backing up Travis Kelce. Rookie Noah Gray will likely serve as Kelce's backup this year. The Chiefs signed guard Bryan Witzmann following Keizer's retirement.
Chiefs tendered exclusive rights free agent TE Nick Keizer.
Keizer played 302 snaps last season as both a special teams asset and Travis Kelce's direct backup. He'll be the next man up if Kelce ever goes down.
Keizer signed a reserve/future contract with the Chiefs on Tuesday, according to the NFL's official transaction report.
Keizer spent time with the Chiefs during the preseason, recording a touchdown in the final preseason matchup. After initially being cut ahead of Week 1, the tight end spent the remainder of the season on the practice squad. He'll now get a chance to develop in the Chiefs system this offseason as he looks to crack the 53-man roster in the fall.
Keizer caught five of eight targets for 33 yards and a touchdown in Thursday night's 27-20 preseason loss to the Packers.
Keizer ranked second on the Chiefs in receptions, which included his four-yard score toward the end of the third quarter. Despite his success Thursday, it still seems unlikely Keizer will make Kansas City's roster ahead of Week 1.
