ESPN's Field Yates reports free agent DT Muhammad Wilkerson was suspended for the first two games of the 2020 NFL season.

Wilkerson's suspension is stemming from his arrest on DWI charges back in March. He was also arrested in June of 2019 for drunk driving in Washington Heights, New York. Currently a free agent who hasn't played a single snap since 2018, we've likely seen the last of Wilkerson's NFL career.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports free agent DT Muhammad Wilkerson was arrested for DWI, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Our last blurb on Wilkerson was for his June 2019 arrest, which also included impaired driving. Wilkerson has obvious legal issues to deal with, but he'll also be facing league discipline if he's to make it back into the league. That, of course, is looking a lot less likely now. Wilkerson had two 10.0+ sack seasons, but off the field concerns and injuries have all but ended his career.

Wilkerson (ankle) was arrested Saturday for driving while intoxicated, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Wilkerson was placed on injured reserve last season after suffering a broken ankle Week 3. He said he wanted to re-sign with the Packers, but he's still a free agent and may now need to serve an NFL suspension.

The Jets informed Wilkerson on Wednesday that he has been released from the team, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Wilkerson's release was one of the more predictable moves of the offseason after the defensive end wore out his welcome with the Jets almost immediately after inking a five-year, $86 million contract extension in the summer of 2016. In addition to seeing his productivity on the field decline with a combined eight sacks over 28 games the past two seasons, Wilkerson ruffled feathers with the organization for his chronic tardiness and negative presence in the locker room, according to Darryl Slater of NJ.com reports. In deactivating Wilkerson for the final three games of the past season, the Jets sought to avoid a serious injury to the 28-year-old that would leave the team on the hook for his $16.75 million salary for 2018. By cutting Wilkerson prior to the start of the new league year, the Jets will be free of any further financial commitment and open up $11 million in salary-cap space.
