Mike Person
Player News
Free agent OG Mike Person announced his retirement from the NFL after seven seasons.
The 31-year-old appeared in 73 career games after being taken in the seventh round of the 2011 draft by the 49ers. He ended up debuting for the Seahawks in 2012, staying for two years, before one-year stints with the Falcons, Rams, and Colts. Person ended things in San Francisco, starting 30 games over the past two seasons for Kyle Shanahan’s group. He was released back in April after going to the Super Bowl.
49ers released RG Mike Person.
The move frees up $2.5 million in salary-cap space for the 49ers. Person started 30 games for the 49ers from 2018-2019. Previously he had stints in Seattle, Atlanta and Indianapolis. The 31-year-old lineman has some interior positional flexibility, but expectations should be limited. Overall, PFF graded Person as the league's No. 38 overall guard among 86 qualified players in 2019. It remains to be seen if Person will find a new starting role, or if he'll be more of an addition to address depth.
Person (neck) is active for Sunday's game against the Seahawks.
Person will start at right guard with a chance to secure a first-round bye on the line.
Person (neck) is active for Saturday's game against the Rams.
Person was dealing with a neck injury at practice this week, but he's good to go for Saturday's matchup. The 31-year-old should take up his usual starting post at right guard for San Francisco.
