Patriots TE Michael Williams cleared waivers and reverts to injured reserve.
Patriots officially waived/injured TE Michael Williams, who tore his left ACL on Wednesday.
Williams wasn't going to play anyway, so now he'll spend the next eight months to a year rehabbing, hoping to catch on with a team's practice squad once he's healthy if he's lucky.
Patriots placed Michael Williams (knee) on injured reserve.
Williams tore his ACL in the late portion of Patriots practice today, and his season is over before it could even begin. The Patriots traded for Williams last year and converted him from a tackle to a tight end, and he caught three passes for 26 yards. He was mostly used as a blocker in 2015, and faced an uphill battle to make the Patriots roster this year as their tight end depth chard includes Rob Gronkowski, Martellus Bennett, and Clay Harbor.

Michael Williams injured his leg/knee during Wednesday's minicamp, and was seen walking with crutches on Thursday.
With Rob Gronkowski and Martellus Bennett in the mix a tight end, Williams was slated to be the No. 3 at the position for the Patriots. A seventh-round pick out of Alabama in 2013, he made the switch from offensive lineman to tight end last year and is known for his powerful blocking ability up front.
